CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

TASMANIAN ART AWARD 2012 

 

1.     The artist must be a resident of Tasmania at time of entry.

2.     Each piece of art must be accompanied by:
· Completed & signed entry form (available over page)
· Entry fee of $20.00
· Artist biography (maximum 50 words, longer works will be edited).
· Description of artwork (maximum 25 words, longer works will be edited).
 
3.   The work of art must be the original, unaided work of the artist, completed in the 12-month period prior to the exhibition date and not previously exhibited publicly.
 
4Up to three works, or one only suite, may be submitted by an artist.
 
5. The work must be on canvas, board or paper(except for sculpture - see condition 23). The work must not be solely photographic.
 
6. The size of the work, excluding frame, must not exceed 1.2 x 1.2 metres or equal size by area.
 
7. The work must be ready to hang with adequate hooks and wiring.
 
8Late entries will not be accepted.
 
9. The work must be free of all charges. Eskleigh will not pay any freight or other charge.
 
10.Eskleigh and its agents will exercise care with the works submitted but will not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage, however caused, to any artwork in its custody. Artists are advised to arrange their own insurance.
 
11.Artists will allow their works to be reproduced by newspaper or television or other advertising ventures deemed by Eskleigh to be appropriate, and to be photographed for research purposes while the exhibition is on view to the public. Eskleigh reserves the right to reproduce winning entries.
 
12. Eskleigh reserves the right not to exhibit all submitted works. Exhibition space is limited. In the event of capacity being exceeded, the Tasmanian Art Award at Eskleigh Committee will select the entries to be exhibited.
 
13. Once judged, all entries will be on exhibition and offered for sale for the duration of the Exhibition. They cannot be withdrawn.
14. Eskleigh will encourage the sale of works to the public. A realistic price is necessary.
15. Eskleigh will deduct commission of 30% from the marked retail price of every work sold, but Eskleigh may reduce the selling price by reducing the commission.
 
16. Donations above the marked retail price will be retained by Eskleigh.
 
17. Cheques covering the sales will be posted to the address shown on the entry form within 14 days of the close of the exhibition.
  
18. Judging will be completed by the 20 April 2012 and the winners will be announced at the official opening.
 
19. Winner of the People’s Prize award will be announced in The Examiner during the week commencing 30 April 2012.
 
20. The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
 
21.Unsold work will be available for collection on Sunday 29 April 2012 between 4pm and 5pm and during the following week, Monday to Friday between 9am and 4.30pm only. Original receipts must be presented when collecting unsold works. Eskleigh will not arrange for unsold works to be returned to exhibitor, this is the exhibitor’s responsibility.
 
22.Works not collected within 30 days of the 20 April 2012 will be sold or disposed of by Eskleigh without any liability whatsoever.
 
23.Specific Conditions for Sculpture: Each sculpture must conform to the following shipping requirements, including shipping materials: (1) The sum of the girth (twice the width plus twice the depth, or circumference) must not exceed 3 metres (2) the longest length must not exceed 2 metres. Total weight must not exceed 50kg. Sculpture materials may be: wood, metal, plastic, glass, ceramic, concrete, or any combination which will be water resistant and will withstand packaging and shipping. No assembly by Eskleigh’s staff will be permitted. If any assembly or mounting on a base block is required, then this must be done by the artist or the artist’s workmen. Sculpture must be ground-based, and not require any wall-hanging or suspension devices unless integral to the sculpture. Artists must provide their own display mounting eg. plinth. Should the sculpture require protection with a roped-off barricade then this will be the responsibility of the artist to provide. The positioning of the sculpture will be at the sole discretion of the Chair of the Tasmanian Art Awardat EskleighCommittee, although due consideration may be given to the expectations of the artist, in arriving at a decision.
 
Prize: Sculpture entries are eligible for the $6,000 Acquisitive Award; the $1500 Sculpture prize; the $1500 Judges’ Commendation prizes and the $500 People’s prize in competition with other entries to the exhibition.
 
 
Failure to comply with conditions will render entries invalid.
